Learn Korean: 이런 게 + Noun
Let’s
take a look at the Korean sentence pattern 이런 게 + Noun.
This is used in question form to criticize something. For example, you have
been dating your current boyfriend for six months and as time passes by, you
feel like your relationship is getting cold as ice and he isn’t
as affectionate as he used to be. It took awhile before you break down and tell
him how you feel about your relationship. So you say 이런 게 연애니? which means you call this a relationship/dating? with a negative connotation (I don’t think it is). 이런 게 refers to the way your relationship is
handled.
이런 게 연애니?
Is this what you call dating? You call that a relationship?
이런 게 여행이니?
You call this trip? Is this what you call trip? (you just stay at the hotel the whole day?)
이런 게 연습이야?
Is this what you call practice? (we are not
doing anything at all)
