Learn Korean: Time + 에
Let’s take a look at the Korean sentence pattern Time + 에. The particle 에 is not only attached to places but time as well. With this, we can make time phrases such as a day, a week, a month, etc. There are many ways to say these periods of time in Korean, but only one fits this usage. We use 하루 for day, 주일 for week, 달 for month, and 년 for year. This is pretty tricky because Sino-Korean is used in one, and Pure-Korean is used in another. To make it simple, we say 하루에, 일주일에, 한 달에, and 일년에 respectively. Sino-Korean is used in week and year and Pure-Korean is used in day and month. There is a Sino-Korean way to say 하루 and that is 일 일, but it less common than the former. We can use them in a variety of sentences.
